Bruges -Where to Eat and Drink?

Ideas for Breakfast

@Tattie’s

@ Tattie’s was the place most mentioned on the internet when we were looking for places to have breakfast and with the best reviews too, so we needed to try.

We came to Bruges around Christmas and for that the show window was full of Christmas decorations (so pretty!).

The room inside is not big so bear in mind it might be full but the food is worth to wait for a table. We decided to not go too crazy food wise and we ordered lattes, scrambled eggs on toast, cheese and ham toast. However, there were many people around us diving in huge waffles with fruit, cream and chocolate. It looked delicious.

I found @ Tattie’s a cute and cozy place and it was worth having breakfast here. We actually try to go there the next day as well but apparently @ Tattie’s is closed on Sundays. Even though we came here for breakfast they also serve lunches until 3:30 pm. I am putting below the official site, but the photos don’t show this place’s potential, so first check here and try not to drool: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g188671-d9974560-Reviews-At_Tattie_s-Bruges_West_Flanders_Province.html

Cafune Espresso Bar

We had breakfast in here Sunday, mainly because all other places around were closed. It has a nice decoration and a posh/relaxing vibe. Unfortunately the menu didn’t have many choices so we ended up having Chai Latte, a butter croissant and pancakes. The Chai Latte was so hot and they gave us mugs without handles so it was difficult for us to manage the best way to drink it. Mugs without handles were a particularity in Bruges (not only from this place). Apart form that the food was good, a bit pricey for what we got but in the end it fitted the purpose.

Ideas for Lunch/Dinner

Grote Markt – Christmas Market

The main reason to visit Bruges was to see the Christmas Market. The city fully embraced this time of the year and there were so many decorations, celebrations and markets. You, we found out there are more than one. In the Christmas Market you can buy scarves, gloves, paintings and…food.

There are so many temptations, what is difficult is to choose for which ones you will fall. We tried belgian waffles, sausages, sweets and hot drinks. As you can see a lot of unhealthy food going on.

The Grote Markt is where is located the main Christmas market but it also the main plaza of the city. As a very touristic place there are different restaurants you can try, but be careful to not ending up in a very expensive restaurant for no reason except the location. That was one of the main reasons why we only had snacks and fast food in this area.

Friterie 900

Belgian fries. The best fries I have ever had it was in Belgium. Actually the best fries I have ever eaten was not in Bruges but in Brussels. However, these were damn good. When we decided to go back to Belgium we knew almost immediately that we had to eat again these “special” fries and Friterie 900 was our choice. They sell more than fries, you have also burguers, sausages, among many other delicacies.

Burguer King

We all know this chain of fast food. This was our choice on our first day here. We arrived quite late without looking at a proper place to eat and after checking the prices of the restaurants around we decided one day wouldn’t hurt us. It is always a safe and cheap option in desesperation times.

Cafe Rose Red

We arrived to this restaurant quite late after spending the afternoon eating fries. This was one of the few places that still served food (until 11:30 pm on week days and 00:30 on weekends) and we decided to have sharing kind of food instead of ordering a full meal each. And as we were already here, taking the opportunity to try new beers (plus others).

The restaurant was really nice and the staff friendly. As the name suggests the decoration included red roses. The food we ordered was good and we had a quite enjoyable evening.

Drinking

Belgian Beer

Belgian Beer is one of the best things of the country. There are so many different types of beer around that is very difficult for a tourist to try them all.

  • 2be Bar

If you want a place with loads of choices in Belgian beer this is for sure the right place to stop. They show a collection of old and new bottles of this drink in a corridor which ends in a balcony where you can ordered the beer you want. They also have a store if you want to buy some to take with you.

The best is their terrace where you can sip a drink and enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the city near the river.

  • Langestraat Street – De Kelk

On the Langestraat street you will find different cafes and bars where you can sit and enjoy one beer or two. We were lucky and we ended up one of our nights in De Kelk. The place was full but we still got two sits on the balcony. The music was good, people were having fun and the different beers kept coming. The staff was friendly and they had a very cutie and well-behaved dog. It is a good place to spend some hours in a rainy and cold evening.
