Porto – Where to Stay?

You have different possible options. We tried some of them and this is my feedback of the places where I stayed.

Porta 110

This was undoubtedly the best hotel we stayed. This hotel right in the center of Porto is more a “guesthouse-kind-of-feeling” than a hotel, which will make your staying more homey. Our room was huge with a modern decoration and amazing view. Even though the train station was right in front of us, the noisy didn’t put us off, and the owners had kindly given us ear plugs. The station coming from the station compared to the noisy of the seagulls that are EVERYWHERE, seriously EVERYWHERE, is not that bad. The best of this hotel was definitely the breakfast, oh my god, superb. The breakfast is served to your room and everyday they bring different options so you can try different types of bread, jams, pastries. Just look at the photo below and you will believe me.

Porto Domus Hotel

We booked this hotel last minute and we needed one with available car parking. This was the best option that came up. This hotel is not far from the city center, 10 minutes walking or even less than that. The room was what you can expect from a 3-star hotel. It looked like a place where students will work to get experience in the “Hospitality field”. The only part we really didn’t like was the car park, it was so narrow and difficult to get the car out that in the end we had to organise our lives in order to take it the least amount of times possible. Other than that the location was good, the room reasonable and the staff friendly.

I have mixed reviews from using Airbnb in this city. The first time we used it went perfectly well, the house was big, clean and the owner very friendly and helpful. The location was not perfect, it was a bit far from the center, but good enough for us.

The second time it was awful. We booked a flat in a different location, closer to the center but it went horribly wrong. The street was really noisy and one of the windows didn’t close so we ended up not sleeping much. Other negative point was the breakfast that was included in the price, however when we checked, the food was out of its expiry date. What surprises me the most it is the good reviews this place have.

Basically from my experience be very careful when choosing a place to stay using Airbnb. This was actually the worst experience I had, I have booked accommodation to other cities and I have never had problems, only on this specific occasion.

For private reasons I am not going to specify locations/owners but you can always email me and I will give you more information.
