Bluebird Lodge

We stayed at the Bluebird Lodge (Guesthouse) for 3 nights. If you are looking for a place just to sleep, have a good breakfast in a very scenic landscape in Coniston and close to Windermere this is the place to go. The breakfast was good, and the homeowner was super friendly. The “less good” thing was perhaps the small size of the room and the bathroom (my husband had to do some gymnastics to use the toilet). This guesthouse as all other accommodations have to implement some rules to comply to covid-19 guidance from government. For that reason, the breakfast had to be chosen the day before i.e., food and timing. This is one of the most common rules we have encountered since the pandemic.

Overall, as I said if you are just looking for a place to sleep for a good price the Bluebird Lodge is our recommendation.

The Lodge in the Vale
Our choice for accommodation in the north of Lake District was “The Lodge in the Vale“. Close to Keswick but a bit far away from the centre and within a reasonable price we booked a room with breakfast included. The room was good, far more spacious than at the Bluebird Lodge, but the view was not as pretty. Maybe the only thing I could point it our it was the noise of the cars from early morning, but it is a small thing really since we were early risers. For breakfast we had two choices, stay at the Lodge in the Vale and have a “continental breakfast” on the ground floor where the cafeteria was or go to the pub “The King’s Head Inn” – literally 5 minutes driving – for a hot breakfast. Either choice didn’t have extra charge from what we paid at the booking. The first morning we were stupid, and we decided to stay at the Lodge, but after a very disappointing breakfast, we decided for the next mornings to have breakfast in the pub (check the difference in the images below)
The King’s Head Inn also offers accommodation if you mind driving for 5 minutes (or if you don’t have the possibility to do so). We also tried this place for dinner because of the atmosphere of the place but it was fully booked for the three nights we were in Keswick and for that reason we have never had the opportunity to dine in here (the King’s Head Inn entrance in the picture below).

yes, it was. I have ordered vegetarian sausages and my husband “not-vegetarian” sausages and we both ate them ferociously. Plus, the fruit salad was so so tasty. Really recommend the Blue Bird Lodge
