Let’s move on to food and drinks in this lovely city, shall we? I think it is a brilliant idea (even though I will be starving in the end).
In here I will help you with places where we had:
- Beer and Drinks
Suggestions for dinner
While we were in Brussels we wanted to try traditional food of this city/country. One of the dishes that are traditional are ribs. And no place is better than this restaurant, called Amadeo. This restaurant is highly recommended to eat ribs. We didn’t book a table and when we go there around 7 pm it was told us there was no possibility to have dinner that night because it was full booked. We were “almost devastated”, we really wanted to try this place. For the next hour we’ve been around the city looking for any other option but anything caught our eye. Because we couldn’t decide we went to Amadeo again to ask to reserve a table for the next day. When we got there around 8:30 pm the restaurant was almost empty and after all we got a table straight away. They could have told us to come later, it would have save some trouble but never mind.
Now about the food, the specialty is ribs in barbecue sauce served with jacket potatoes with a delicious sauce. I am telling the potato and the sauce that came with it was my favorite bit. But the meat is also very good, seriously. And even better you can eat as many ribs and potatoes as you want because they keep bringing them. I also tried here my favorite beer, beer with cherry’s flavor. Really nice (I know I am a proper girl). I really recommend this place but please make a favor to yourself and book a table first.

I found this place when I was looking for a cheap place to have dinner close to the hotel. The reviews were really good so we gave it a go. It was an amazing idea. The fries here are so, but SO delicious. Before I couldn’t understand why people would eat fries in cones just with a sauce. I had always thought “Just a waste of money and calories intake” but I am telling the moment I had these fries, OMG I will not tell that ever again. Well, I think you’ve already got the idea these were the best fries in my life. They also sell other things like sandwiches, and the fries (I have already told you they are super yummy?) are sold with a chosen sauce. They have different kind of sauces so you can choose yours. They have garlic mayo, simple mayo, ketchup, among others. This place is a must to go. Do not miss it, please. We went there twice, on our first day and on our last (to say goodbye).

For our last day we wanted to try mussels (a traditional dish in Brussels). “When is Rome, do as Romans do”. Because my boyfriend loves this Belgium beer “Grimbergen” we booked a dinner table at Grimbergen Cafe (we learnt with the experience at Amadeo! to book in advanced) and I am glad that we did. Oh my! we had so many mussels. I just loved it!They came in a nice and big pot with a yum sauce. And not to forget to mention they also bring fries. The restaurant itself is very friendly and cosy. It was really a pleasure especially because we had a view to St. Catherine’s church (it was a plus). If you book a table use the following link “thefork.be”, we used and we have a discount on our dinner.
Suggestions for waffles
Places where you can have waffles in Brussels are many, but this place is the one to go if you want the best ones. Maison Dandoy is one of the first houses selling this delicacy, doing it for the past 150 years. They are a bit more expensive than the ones that you can have in the stores around the city, but they are so much better so the price is not a let down. We had ours just simple with sugar. The sugar bit was probably too much but the waffle itself was 5*, really delicious. They have a couple of stores around the city so you can choose the one that suitable you the most.
Streets around the Manneken-Pis
If you really want to try the waffles but you want something less fancy (or expensive) than Maison Dandoy and you want it with loads of cream, fruit and/or chocolate, there are a lot of places around the city but many are located next to the Manneken-Pis. They are very cheap, you can have a waffle without toppings for 1 euro. Obviously if you want to add more things to the waffles, more expensive it becomes. I must say I had one with strawberries and chocolate but it couldn’t be compared to the ones we had at Maison Dandoy (but this is my personal preference, it’s up to you to decide which one is better).
Our beer route
A la Morte Subite
This pub is close to the Les Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert. A la Morte Subite is a famous pub and its name was given due to a game. You can see the all story https://www.alamortsubite.com/en/. When we arrived the place was almost full, it was lunch time and you can also have lunch or dinner in here.

We had our second beer in Brussels in here. It is a very unique place with loads of puppets (if you don’t like them you may feel a bit uneasy) and other collections. My mother will say this place was full of trinkets but it’s actually a lovely place. You can also eat here, have lunch or dinner (even though we didn’t try the food). This place is very close to the Manneken-Pis so you can come here without coming out of your tourist path.
Address: Rue du Chêne 5, 1000 Bruxelles, Belgium
This is a Irish pub in Brussels. Even though we haven’t tried the food it looked so yummy.
I tried a delicious cider with blueberry juice (at least I think it was blueberry juice but I cannot remember very well). There are a lot of different beers that you can try in here. Really nice place to relax for a bit.

Le Patin/Belga Café
These two places are near the “De Valera’s”. Why am I putting them together? Because even though we went there (or tried to) I don’t know which kind of review I should put.
First: Le Patin
This place has really good reviews on tripadvisor and other “social media” websites and that is why we came here. When we arrived, it gave us an immediate feeling of being an “alternative” spot and we ended up leaving without trying anything. That is why I am not very confident to tell you to try “Le Patin” but do some research. Afterall it can be the perfect café for you.
Second: Belga Café
We really wanted to try the Belga Café. There is some live music and it is the place to discover the belgium culture. It’s in here that people who live in Brussels often meet up. The only thing that stopped us from entering was the long queue, and as it was raining we decided not to be just there standing. At least we took a picture of the place.
We came to this pub/cafe at least 3 times (that I can remember) and every time we tried different beers. We came here in the morning and also at night and it’s a place with a really nice atmosphere. You also have the choice of “tasters”, a rack of 6 different belgium beers. It is a good experience and an opportunity to get drunk (I know we did).
